With the four most tempting compact SUVs in the market, let’s know which one offers the best bang for your buck. And to clear the clutter, we bring you the comparison of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Vitara Brezza, and Mahindra XUV300.

The top three best-selling SUVs of 2020 have been Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Vitara Brezza. Mahindra XUV300 too isn’t far behind and joins them in the list of top 10 SUVs of the previous year. And this year too looks outright bright for the fantastic four. Besides being the year of the Covid-19 epidemic, 2020 will be remembered as the year of compact and mid-size SUVs. Because the calendar year registered several launches as well as recorded massive sales.

The Creta got into its most radical avatar with the second-gen launch, while Seltos continued to flourish in 2020. In the sub-4-meter segment facelifted Maruti Brezza made the news, while the XUV300 continued as the favorite of safety-conscious buyers.

So, let’s compare the four fantastic SUVs head-to-head on various factors.

Design Comparision

Hyundai Creta

With nearly 1 lakh unit sales in 2020, Creta managed to pull more numbers with its latest design philosophy ‘Sensuous Sportiness’. The second-gen Creta SUV flaunts cascading grille and eye-catching split LED headlamp design upfront. Just like its contemporary front, even the rear shares no similarity with the earlier model. The new Creta is based on the Kia Seltos platform.

Kia Seltos

Kia Seltos from no angle appears to be sharing the underpinnings to cousin Creta and features a distinctive appearance of its own. The intimidating front looks backed by the tiger-nose grille and ‘badass’ design provides it with a mature mannish emergence, instead of a glamourous appearance. The stretched DRLs with LED headlamps and beefy front bumper bestow it with stylish peculiarity. The Seltos receive proper SUV treatment on the side profile. Moreover, the back seizes LED tail lamps and thick chrome slat for added plush quotient.

Vitara Brezza

The New Vitara Brezza doesn’t share much of a difference with its previous model in the mild facelift avatar. The tweaks are more or less cosmetic and are largely directed to the front part of the compact SUV. The revised grille now has dual-barrel projector headlamps with daytime running lights and LEDs. Other welcome changes of Maruti Vitara Brezza come as silver skid plates at front and rear, LED tail lamps, 16-inch machined alloy wheels, etc.

Mahindra XUV300

On the other hand, despite being under sub-4-metre SUV, Mahindra XUV300 appears wider and possesses more maturity with its pronounced wheel arches. The modern front with signature Mahindra grille dipped in chrome looks fabulous. Dubbed as younger XUV500, its rear comprises of polarised design with eye-shape-inspired taillights, while the faux skid plate lends sporty appeal.

Dimensions Comparision

Both the mid-size SUVs in the contest, Creta and Seltos, are 4 meter+ in length and share a similar platform. Here, Seltos is marginally bigger in terms of length, width and height. Furthermore, in terms of width, even the Seltos and Creta fall flat against the XUV300.

 Interior Comparision

The new Hyundai Creta cabin appears sorted and doesn’t experiment much. The center console is more driver-oriented, while the dashboard uses quality plastic and receives a premium finish. The console gets a large 10.25-inch touchscreen unit with AC knobs sitting at the bottom. The steering with mounted controls, first-rate upholstery, advanced yet simplified instrument, and contrast inserts on AC vents help it acquire premium essence.

A quick peek inside the Seltos is enough to create the liking for the Audi-inspired cabin. Everything seems perfectly done which comprises of faux leather finish, ambient lighting, floating infotainment system, and color MID. The comfortable seats, premium fit and finish levels, and host of handy features help Seltos interiors emerge as a champion in the best SUV cabin slot.

Coming to Maruti Brezza, similar to the outside, there isn’t much noticeable change inside the cabin. The cabin continues its previous USPs like practicality, handiness, and ample room for front and rear occupants. Being a Maruti mass segment SUV, the material quality feels unconvincing. However, this is compensated with some clever moves like the addition of a premium-feel leather-wrapped steering wheel and others.

The widest of the four, Mahindra XUV300 comes with a handsome cabin space that can absorb five occupants with sheer comfort. The black and beige theme cabin topped with the highest adult and child safety rating, smart steering system, and other segment-first features makes XUV300 on top of the list for the buyers.

Engine and Specifications Comparision

The Maruti Vitara Brezza is a petrol-only car among the four. Likewise, the new Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos offer two petrol and one diesel offering, while the Mahindra XUV300 sets for one petrol and one diesel engine choice.

Features & Convenience

The latest Hyundai Creta iteration and Kia Seltos are packed with more or less identical equipment list with features comprising of ventilated seats, premium Bose surround-sound system, wireless phone charger, climate control, 10.25-inch touch-screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, keyless entry with push-button start/stop, power adjust driver seat, connected car tech and others. Additionally, the Creta separates itself from Seltos by offering more premium elements like the digital driver display, large panoramic sunroof and more. Whereas the Seltos offer a large multi-info display, 360-degree camera, rear sunblind, sound mood lighting, etc.

Talking about safety, both the cousins, Creta and Seltos, get ABS+EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), 6 airbags, parking sensors, auto hold function and others.

The nearly unchanged list of features in the BS6 Maruti Brezza include a 7-inch SmartPlay infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs, auto-dimming IRVM, LED tail lamps, auto rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry and others. Whilst safety aspects consist of ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, dual airbags, hill hold, etc.

Safety is the USP for XUV300, as even the mid-size SUVs fail to beat the steadfast Mahindra SUV. It gets segment-first 7 airbags, dual-zone climate control, and heated ORVMs, while others comprise of a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), front and rear parking sensors with camera, LED tail lamps, DRLs, sunroof, and many more.

However, despite the low prices of sub-4-metre SUVs more and more buyers prefer performance, space and practicality of the expensive ones along with the fancy list of features.
